Visual Impairment Centre for Teaching and Research (VICTAR): Birmingham Braille Course

The Birmingham Braille Course grew from exercises developed over many years by the late John Lorimer for teaching braille to the sighted teachers studying at the University of Birmingham to become qualified teachers of blind children. This course has been successfully used for a number of years in the training of teachers of the visually impaired, rehabilitation workers, social workers, learning support assistants and parents.

National Library for the Blind and the Visual Impairment Centre for Teaching and Research (VICTAR): Steps to Independence

The aim of the Steps to Independence website is to help people to understand and consider the different factors that are involved in the delivery of mobility and independence education to children with visual impairment. It is divided up into six rooms which present the various issues. They also offer suggested learning aims and outcomes, examples of best practice, activities, and useful links.

Scottish Sensory Centre: Vision for Doing

Vision for Doing is a book which has been written for all who live or work with children and young people who have a visual disability in the presence of one or more additional disabilities. It offers assistance in assessing and interpreting the effects of visual impairment, where it occurs in the presence of multiple disability.

NASEN: The British Journal of Visual Impairment

The British Journal of Visual Impairment (BJVI) is for all professionals concerned with children and adults who have a visual impairment and is a national forum for all views on related subjects. Back issues of the journal up until 1997 have been published as part of the Visugate project with the kind permission of the National Association for Special Educational Needs (NASEN), and with funding from the New Opportunities Fund (NOF).
